Understanding infant growth

Nutrition in early life impacts physical growth, cognitive development, immune development, gastrointestinal function and building healthy eating habits in later life. At Danone Research & Innovation we aim to deliver nutrition for each stage of development to ensure all infants, including those who face growth challenges, can have an optimal start.

Growth in early life

The ‘Growth Book’ provides an overview of physical growth during the first 1000 days of life and factors that influence growth trajectories. It is edited by paediatric experts – Prof. Dr. Mary Fewtrell , Prof. Dr. Kim Michaelsen, Prof. Dr. Eline van der Beek and Prof. Dr. Ruurd van Elburg.

It discusses challenges that can occur from compromised birth such as being born prematurely, with small-, or large for gestational age and growth deviations such as stunting, wasting, overweight and obesity in infancy and toddlerhood.
