R&I Centre in Utrecht celebrates 10 years

Danone Research & Innovation celebrates the 10-year anniversary of the R&I centre in Utrecht, the Netherlands (NL), and a decade of excellence and looks forward to more remarkable achievements to come.

The global R&I centre in Utrecht is Danone’s incubator for specialized nutrition and strives to develop innovative nutritional solutions, founded on over 125 years of experience that started and continues to be strongly rooted in science.

Isabelle Esser, Chief Research & Innovation, Quality & Food Safety Officer at Danone:
Quote: “The R&I centre in Utrecht is a constantly advancing powerhouse of specialised nutrition innovation. Bringing health through food to as many people as possible, particularly those who need special care“

Over 500 dedicated staff perform innovative research into the many benefits of healthy nutrition in early life, in areas ranging from digestion and gut health to growth, immunity and cognitive development. In addition, they aim to pioneer nutritional discoveries that help people live longer, and healthier lives, with advanced nutrition supporting the vulnerable and the sick – in the field of paediatric care and metabolics, as well as the care of adults and the elderly.

Our scientists, nutritionists and technologists operate within a strong worldwide network of global and local partners, including research institutes, universities, and academic hospitals.
The location of the R&I centre on the Utrecht Science Park, a campus for life sciences in the Netherlands, helps facilitate connections with world-class scientific partners and academic healthcare institutions.

We are extremely proud of the passion, drive and expertise of our employees who pioneer nutritional solutions and deliver evidence-based specialized nutrition for infants, young children, pregnant women, patients and the elderly.
We innovate to contribute to health and well-being for everyone, at every age, reflecting Danone’s mission of “bringing health through food to as many people as possible.”

Danone has 2 global research centers, one located in Utrecht, the Netherlands, and one located in Paris-Saclay, France dedicated to Danone’s “fresh dairy and plant-based products” and “natural mineral water” categories, which opened earlier this year. In addition, there are research hubs located all over the world. These centers are proof of Danone’s commitment to innovation.
