Human Milk Research

Human milk, our inspiration to innovate

Danone Research & Innovation has spent over 50 years studying the composition of human milk and the associated benefits. We have built extensive scientific expertise that has led to pioneering innovation and development. Our track record includes major insights into human milk proteins, prebiotic oligosaccharides, beneficial bacteria, and micro-nutrients and more recently the role of the complex fat architecture of human milk.

What begins as scientific investigation becomes evidence-based, patented nutritional solutions to support infants’ wellbeing right through to later life.

• We provide tailored nutritional concepts to support infants with specific nutritional needs in particular preterm infants and thus, optimally support their growth and development, while preserving the benefits of breastfeeding.
• Inspired by beneficial effects of HMOS on gut and immunity, we pioneered prebiotic formulas based on our unique mixture of prebiotic oligosaccharides scGOS/lcFOS (9:1)
• We introduced a synbiotic formula based on our discoveries of beneficial human milk bacteria.

To extend the benefits of human milk to bottle-fed babies, our dedication has led us to design the next generation of infant nutrition, bringing together our two pioneering innovations. It is the first and only infant formula with a unique combination of the prebiotic mixture scGOS/lcFOS (9:1) and postbiotics derived from our unique fermentation process Lactofidus™.
